• I did it!

Yes, Last Sunday I ran the 5km run around Herne Bay. It’s the first time I’ve run a flat course (being the area around my house is pretty hilly, heights between 14m – 114m with 1.5km of my house!) and I guess with all the other people running that combined to give me fastest ever time.

I started at the back, paced myself, and finished in 29 minutes having overtaken a fair number of people who rushed off at the start. Thanks for the pace tip Dave!

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to run at all this week as I appear to have notably hurt my leg (a particular pain on my right shin) but hopefully I’ll be back running in the next few days. Then I’ll have to go find another 5km run!

I’ve been keeping a running log by emailing myself after every run. If I get time (not likely!) then I may well write a little running log to appear somewhere on these pages. Then you can all email me and tell me to run faster!

  • A month with no posts

Well, it’s been over a month since I last posted. I guess I’ve been really busy. So here’s a quick summary of what’s been going on:

    1) I turned 29 years old (on the 18th June for anyone that wants to send a card next year)
    2) I fixed a bug on the layout of this site that hid the summary text in firefox but not in internet explorer
    3) I’ve been going to Air Cadets every Friday and several Tuesdays
    4) I’ve managed to write some code that processes some supplier data into a useful format for our business system (eventually that will make us more efficient)
    5) I’ve done some templates for Todd’s business web site
    6) I’ve been running (Dave bought me entry into a 5Km run for my birthday, and I’ve been out at least once if not twice a week running at least 12km a week, and this week around 15km so far. The race is on Sunday).
    7) I read a book (A Douglas Reeman seafaring novel I picked up in a second hand bookshop in Faversham).

Of course, there are still a few things on my to do list like:
    1) Get some more photos of James and Nicola and organise them a bit better on my laptop. Print a few and put them up round the house.
    2) Find some more stories on project guttenburg to read on my Palm organiser
    3) Do some more on Todd’s templates
    4) Update some of the supplier price data at work
    5) Remember to post here occasionally 🙂
    6) Write another song or two, book more guitar lessons

Still, life is good. Wonder how fast I’ll run the 5km on sunday?

  • Running Rooties

Thanks to brother Dave, I seem to have caught the running bug. Now, whether I get up to Dave’s level remains to be seen (probably not likely now he’s an accomplished marathron runner!), but with the warmer weather I’ve quite enjoyed running up and down Boughton Hill. Keeping the running kit in the car has meant I’ve been able to stop at one new place this week – I ran across the top of the North Downs (those are a range of hills that run across Kent for distant readers) over Folkstone the other evening. My longest running record so far! 17 minutes may not sound like much to many of you, but it’s and improvement on my 12 minute maximum the previous week.
